Koru Games

Over the last 3 days the year 7&8 students went to the Koru Games. The sports were Netball, Football, Touch and Basketball. I participated Touch. I really enjoyed winning a few of our games because were were doing quite bad then at the end we tried our hardest and won our last couple of games. Thinking back to the beginning of the year, I really improved in taking the touch because I tried my hardest. I found the Koru Games fun because we played one of my favourite sports.

Writing Prove It Term 3

Is It Ever Ok To Lie?
Is it ever ok to lie?! Don't you remember when your parents told you that when you eat your crusts your hair goes curly, or that carrots help your eyesight. Well when I found out that it wasn't true I wanted to get my revenge! But I didn't want anyone to feel angry or upset. I don't want my parents to ground me, my friends to hate me or worse go to PRISON!!! I also don't want to be completely honest either; so that's why today I am going to tell you that it's NOT ok to lie!

My WALT: Ideas
The strategies I used were to use
~Rhetorical questions
~Bold ideas
~Example
~Tone, voice, register that reflects the purpose and audience.

My next step is to get a new writing goal.
This is my entry and exit ticket |

My Maths Term 1

I think I have reached extended abstract because I think I did a good job explaining my maths goals.

My next step is to take an algebra test.

Reading Term 1 Goal

WALT: Make inferences.

An inference is where you read a text then you infer what is going to happen next or you think deeper about what you have read. I will give an example of how to infer.

" When I came home from school my mum told me I had to look after my little brother."  I can infer the feelings of the writer. I think she is annoyed that she has to look after her brother.

I think I reached extended abstract because I could infer a piece of a text and I could explain why the writer wanted me to infer there.
My next step is to have a conference with the teacher.

Tuesday 21 July 2015

Reading Prove It Term 2

WALT: I can describe the effect/purpose of literary texts that subvert conventional features.
For reading we have been looking for incorrect grammar [slang] in the texts we read.
The word for this is colloquial language.
I think I am at extended abstract because I can identify several different pieces of colloquial language in a text.
I can also make a statement of why the author used colloquial language in the text.
I don't have a next step get.

Introduction Of My Explaination.

The career I have chosen is Cook, I have always had passion for cooking and I find it helps me with my subjects at school: maths, reading and my skill in measuring. Therefor I want to do cooking. As a Cook there are many things you can do such as: prepare, cook, and serve food. You can work in a line of places from cafes and bars to fast food outlets and restaurants. You will also need to do some research in high school first.

I have been getting less self checks I got none last week and 1 this week so far. I have been doing a lot more blog posts and I have done a couple of homework challenges that I need to get checked off. Overall I have been going well with my goals from the start of the year because I have gotten use to the spaces and the people in my class.

Leadership

Today at morning tea I gave up my time to run the bake sale. We raised $907.10. I used a disposition called resilience, resilience mean never giving up and trying again. I feel like I used leadership by not getting annoyed when everyone took to long to choose. Someone gave me 20c less then they needed so when they came back in the line i asked for 20c and she gave it to me. I am proud of how I did today.

PALS

Last week I ran PALS for the Kari team we did soccer drills and a game. i think it went really well and people were playing by the rules and they were focused. I think I showed leadership by joining in and running it really smoothly. A lot of people joined in and overall it was a great game and it ran very well.

Leadership Technology

On Tuesday I did technology at LHS. On the bus I was good and I only talked to the person next to me. I feel like I was very focused and I got on with my work well.

August

In August the storm screams at our shivering houses.
In August my fluffy blanket is like a sheepskin comforting me.
This winter is somewhat warm.
The shimmering snow shines in the light of the crisp sun.
Cuddling up with my blanket and delicious hot chocolate was nice, but lonely.
The dull, cold air makes winter scarier.
August is strange.

The language features I used were Personification, Simile and Alliteration because they are some of the harder language features to use.
The solo level I am at is Extended Abstract because I can use several language feature correctly and I can identify them in a poem.

My Maths

                                       Square Roots

Today I am going to prove that I can do square roots.

What is a square root?

A square root is a number that if you say, what is the square root of 25? the answer will be 5 because 5x5=25. I will give another example.
6x6=36, 8x8=64, 7x7=49. So if someone asks you what is the square root of 81 you can say 9 because 9x9=81.

What is squared or cubed?

Squared and cubed are kind of similar to square roots except if someone says what is 3 squared you can say 9 because squared means something times itself. Here are some examples.
4 squared=16, 5 squared=25 and 2 squared=4
Cubed is nearly the exact same but instead of multiplying the number by itself once you multiply it by itself twice here are some examples of this.
1 cubed=1, 4 cubed=64 and 3 cubed=27.

I hope you found this helpful. :)

Wonder!!!

WALT: Write a narrative.

We had to write an added paragraph to our class book, Wonder.

Beep, beep, beep went the racing heart monitor as i'm rushed through the packed emergency room. I enter my room and the suddenly frantic doctors flood in the now sweaty doctors try to quickly work out what is wrong with me. While they are doing that i'm bawling my eyes out. My tears feel like a waterfall streaming down my face. They are dripping onto my Luke Skywalker star wars t-shirt.

Finally the doctors and nurses figure out what's wrong with me. I get the horrifying news...

Big Buddy Programme

Today the year 7s went on camp to Wainui. For the next three days we will be participating in a Big Buddy programme with the year 1s. Today we got assigned a little buddy and a partner to help you with your buddy until more children arrive at school. We got to read our buddy books and learn about them also we played games with them. I showed leadership by respecting our principal who is teaching us her name is Mrs Trotter and helping other students with their little buddys. Overall I thing I showed a massive amount of leadership today.
